Christ Church Cathedral Joint Venture Agreement released

Joint Media Release by Church Property Trustees, Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust and Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Limited

Summary of Christ Church Cathedral Joint Venture Agreement released

A summary of the historic agreement that paves the way for the reinstatement of Christ Church Cathedral has been publicly released today.

The Joint Venture Agreement (JVA), that sets out how the reinstatement project will be implemented, delivered and completed, was signed on 22 August.

The three parties to the agreement are the Church Property Trustees (CPT), Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Trust (CCRT) and Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Limited (CCRL).

At the August signing, it was indicated a summary of the document would be released to the public and various stakeholders with an interest in the Cathedral.

It was released today to coincide with the annual Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Christchurch – one year on from when Synod accepted an offer from the Government and Christchurch City Council, to support the reinstatement of the Cathedral.

“We are pleased to be able to release this summary document today, which provides insight into how and why Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Limited was established and what its key goals and priorities are,” says CCRL Chair Justin Murray.

CPT Acting Chair Moka Ritchie says it is positive to be able to share the summary document with the clergy and laity of Synod one year on from their decision to support reinstatement, and to be able to show a great deal of progress has been made behind the scenes in that time.

“The Joint Venture Agreement is a complex document, representing what will be a complex project, but what I see in the Agreement, and in this summary, is a strong pathway forward.”

Justin Murray says the company is now looking forward to getting onto the next steps for the project.

“We have a substantial and important job ahead of us. The coming months will see us appoint a project director and start a robust review of the methodologies and budget for reinstatement.”

“We are delighted to now have a signed JVA that allows us to get on with the job.”
