Taking action to improve water quality

Environment Canterbury is welcoming today’s Government announcement that it is taking steps to improve the state of our lakes and rivers.

Chair Steve Lowndes said it was heartening to see a national commitment to improve water quality noticeably within five years, mirroring much of what has been happening in Canterbury for some time.

“We have been leading the way since the Canterbury Water Management Strategy was first introduced almost a decade ago,” he said. “It is pleasing to see that many of the measures the Government is now promoting have been part of the agenda in this region for many years – and we are already seeing good results from all that collaborative community effort.”
