Keep your car licence plates safe
"Keep your car licence plates safe"
Attribute to Sergeant Kylee Cusin, Hutt Valley Police
Over the past three months there has been an increase in licence plate thefts across the Hutt Valley.
Police patrols are actively watching for any criminal activity around vehicles and we monitor crime hotspots and carry out mandatory checks on commonly targeted vehicles.
It is upsetting and inconvenient for members of our community to be victims of this type of crime.
To prevent being a victim of this crime local Police will be holding several “Safer Plate” initiatives, with the support of local businesses and Community Patrols New Zealand, where licence plates can be affixed with anti-theft screws.
Police also recommend where possible, to park your car inside your property rather than on the street or only park in well-lit and busy locations.
Often when vehicles are stolen they are used to commit further offences such as burglary and robbery so we are keen to hear anything from the public.
We are proactively targeting offenders who commit these types of crimes and we will hold them accountable for their actions.
Police urge members of the community to report any suspicious activity they see around vehicles to give Police the best chance of catching offenders.
We can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 and directly by phoning your local police station.
