Melissa Moon will be leading the way at the Neon Night Walk

Melissa Moon will be leading the way at the Neon Night Walk/Run – conquering Colonial Knob at Night for Good – Oct 27th

www.neonnightwalk.co.nz – entries close Wed 24th Oct

A new event for the region and one where people can opt to make a difference will be led by our very own two time world mountain running champ and 2 times winner of the Empire State Building race, Melissa Moon.

Melissa will be leading the warm up for the Neon Night Walk on October 27th, at Colonial Knob in Porirua Scenic Reserve. She’ll then take on the challenge walking up the 712 steps to the Lookout encouraging others as she goes. Miss Moon is currently working as a massage therapist with Dementia patients so supporting the event to bring more awareness to the cause was an easy decision. As Dementia Wellington is one of the 7 partner charities that are involved in the event.

This non competitive, event gives people the choice of 8, 16 or 24 kms, conquering Colonial Knob 1,2 or 3 times. People can ‘just do it’ for the mojo or #glow4good and raise money for a cause close to their heart. There is a discounted entry fee for those choosing to enter and fundraise for one of the 7 partner charities and make a difference in the community - Heart Kids, Dementia Wellington, Mental Health Foundation, Arthritis NZ, Healthy Futures, Life Flight, Save The Children. Or people can pay the standard entry fee and just do it!

There'll be music and lights to energise participants as they power up to Colonial Knob for sunset, then cruise or zoom down a glorious gradual track back to the music and lights at Camp Elsdon, with participants encouraged to dress in Neon themed outfits. https://neonnightwalk.co.nz/event-info/

Whilst a challenge for many it’s still less than the 1570 steps to the top of the Empire State Building. When asked how many times she would climb the 712 stairs of Colonial Knob, Miss Moon replied that she would only to do it once “twenty five years of competitive running has taken its toll on my body”.

The Neon night walk is the brainchild of Jill Ford of Fordward Thinking ltd. Jill has had a lifetime of experience creating events and fundraising for charities and says “ With 1 charity for every 170 people in NZ I feel there is a real need in New Zealand for innovative ways to engage and raise much need funds for our charities.” She goes in to express “There’s also more need for health focused social events so we’ve really tried to make this as inclusive as possible. There are no times to beat other than your own.
