Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says Aucklanders are looking forward to welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, to the city on 30 October.

Mayor Goff says, “People are impressed by the personal and warm approach of the royal couple and I expect, weather permitting, a good turnout for their walk around the Karanga Plaza and Viaduct area.

“As a gift from Auckland, council staff have knitted some beautiful woollen clothing for their future baby and we are also presenting two children’s books, A is for Auckland and A is for Aotearoa, to remind them of their visit here.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and taking advantage of the coverage of their visit by the world media to showcase our city,” Phil Goff said.

The mayor will escort Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the walk around the Viaduct at 4pm on Tuesday 30 October. While in Auckland the royal couple will also participate in a gumboot-throwing contest, meet representatives of the Pillars charity and attend a reception hosted by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
