Improving zoo bus services

Media release – for immediate release

GWRC and Wellington Zoo to work together to discuss ways to improve zoo bus services

GWRC officers are to begin working directly with Wellington Zoo to find ways to get more people using public transport to the popular attraction.

Council Chief Executive Greg Campbell ordered the move during today’s Sustainable Transport Committee to ensure that the zoo was getting the level of public transport support it required.

“I would like to thank Wellington Zoo CE Karen Fifield for her excellent submission to the Sustainable Transport Committee. We are committed to working with the zoo to find ways we can improve services and ensure that people are able to easily travel to one of the region’s most loved attractions through our bus network.”

Mr Campbell says the council would work with the zoo on establishing agreed data about patronage, and also options for increasing the number of people using buses to visit the zoo.

“I really believe that by working together we can find a suitable solution and ensure that people find it easy to visit Wellington Zoo”.
