Canterbury Police
are urging drivers and passengers to buckle up and drive
safely after two fatal crashes within 12 hours offered a
timely reminder yesterday.
Enquiries are ongoing into a
single vehicle crash on Gloucester Street, Christchurch,
around 11.15pm where one person died and three others were
taken to hospital.
Earlier on Friday, around 11.10am, one
person died in a crash at the intersection of Colombo Street
and Sandyford Street in Sydenham, Christchurch.
Two others
were transported to hospital in a serious
condition.
“Restraints save lives, it’s that
simple,” says Superintendent Lane Todd.
“Anyone who
chooses not to wear a seatbelt only increases their risk of
injury or death if they end up in a crash.
“Being
properly restrained reduces your chance of death or serious
injury in a crash by 60 percent in the front seat and 44
percent in the back seat.”
The Serious Crash Unit is
investigating both
incidents.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik... More
