Council to take Kāpiti growth project talks to next stage

The Council, and the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), are jointly hosting a public workshop to help guide community conversations about accessing Government support for major Kāpiti projects.

The workshop follows on from an earlier public meeting, in late October, which confirmed the District’s eligibility to make applications to the Government’s Provincial Growth Fund – a central government fund which aims to lift productivity in the provinces.

“There’s been a lot of discussion across the District about how Kāpiti can make the most of the opportunity,” says Kāpiti Coast District Mayor, K Gurunathan.

“This workshop is a chance for the community to hear about real examples of successful Provincial Growth Fund projects from other regions, and to start a conversation about what our District’s economic strengths are and how we can build on them to accelerate growth.”

David Perks, GM Regional Development at the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency, says he has been impressed by the discussions so far between people and organisations across the District.

“The challenge now is to take these conversations a step further and agree on the types of projects that could bring the greatest benefits to Kāpiti.”

Mayor Gurunathan says while the workshop is open to the public it is important people RSVP and identify their main area of interest. This will ensure the workshop discussions include a wide range of expertise and knowledge that reflects the interests of all Kāpiti communities.
