Don’t let your guard down – secure your property this summer

Canterbury Police would like to remind residents to ensure their properties aren’t an open invitation to opportunistic burglars in the warmer weather.

With summer well and truly upon us, many of us will be keeping doors and windows open to stay cool, however this can spark the interest of those looking for an easy way in.

Whether you’re at home or not, you should continuously think about the security of your home.

Thieves and burglars will take every chance they can to get what they are after - this includes entering your house if they know you are working in the back yard or busy in the garage.

There are some very simple preventative measures you can take to ensure you deter burglars as much as possible:

• Always keep your front door locked, even while you are at home.

• If you have a screen door with a lock, it’s safer to keep this locked as well.

• Secure your windows and use locks and security latches where possible.

Police also urge anyone who sees any suspicious behaviour, or people who shouldn’t be where they are, to contact us immediately by calling 111.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
