Celebrate at the Okura Forest Festival!

On 16th February celebrate the natural world and enjoy amazing music with your family and friends at the Okura Forest Festival. The festival is Auckland's largest environmental awareness music event and as well as a full afternoon and evening of dazzling main stage artists, you can get involved in a fascinating range of workshops, browse delightful eco-friendly stalls and sample sumptuous local food!

It’s the 6th year that Friends of Okura Bush have been coordinating the event to raise funds and awareness to protect one of the last stands of remnant coastal forest, the Okura Bush Reserve and its surrounds. The 116-hectare Okura Bush is an important piece of natural heritage right on Auckland's doorstep. Home to many living treasures, it’s an incredible coastal forest made up of subtropical broadleaf trees like puriri, taraire, kohekohe, the best example of kanuka on a headland in the district and some very healthy regenerating stands of Kauri.

Festival-goers will be able to groove to one of New Zealand’s best-loved bands, James Reid & Hamish Gee from The Feelers. The Feelers have written and recorded some of our greatest songs, Venus, Astronaut, and One World. Along the way they have amassed some remarkable stats, 250,000+ albums sold, 5 multi-platinum albums, 5 #1 albums, 7 #1 singles and more radio airplay than any other New Zealand artist!

The exciting music line-up also includes International Tourist and Blunderbus Jones from Australia, and New Zealand artists Strangely Arousing,Molly & The Chromatics, Daffodils, Franko Heke, Harry Parsons, Three Letter Acronym plus more.

International Tourist’s DJ/producer Max Schollar-Root is thrilled to be coming back, “It will be great to perform at the Okura Forest Fest again, it was definitely a tour highlight last time! The festival has a great laidback vibe and it’s so wonderful to be part of something that helps our environment.”

An enticing variety of workshops are also on offer including presentations by renowned freshwater environmentalist Mike Joy on New Zealand’s Freshwater Crisis and Greenpeace activist Steve Abel on How to Effect Environmental Change. Other workshops include How to attract Butterflies to your Garden, Circular Breathing, How 5G will affect your Health, Worm Farming, Stretch Yoga and Shifting the Ecological Worldview.

Lezette Reid, Chair of Friends of Okura says; “We have an incredible line up of performers and workshops for everyone to enjoy. Over the last 5 years Friends of Okura Bush has raised over $75,000 at the Festival and this year we intend to have the biggest and most brilliant festival ever and raise over $35,000.”

“With the funds raised we aim to be able to carry out projects such as more widescale weed, ship-rat and possum control both in the Okura Bush and in the surrounding area. This will enable wildlife that has been missing in action from Okura Bush for well over 100 years like the long tail bat, kaka and saddleback to return to this beautiful forest.”

All tickets purchased go into the draw to win 1 of 3 weekend getaways at the historic Dacre Cottage located on beautiful Karepiro Bay at the northern end of the Okura Bush Reserve.
