Let’s Move Together gets families moving

Thursday 7 February 2019

Aquatics Horowhenua is encouraging families to get outdoors and get active with its annual Let’s Move Together event.

Now in its third year, Let’s Move Together offers outdoor fun for the whole family, with a children’s triathlon, bouncy castle, slip and slide, BBQ and a fun swim.

Aquatics Horowhenua Programmes and Events Supervisor Lewis Young said the triathlon is all about participation.

“We want to encourage kids to be healthy and active. The triathlon is a great way to have fun, keep fit and make new friends,” he said.

Although official entry is open to children aged between five and thirteen years, Mr Young encouraged parents to get involved too.

“This is a family event, and we’d love to see parents swimming and running alongside their kids to encourage them on,” he said.

Mr Lewis said the triathlon is expected to be popular, with over 300 children participating last year.

It consists of a swim, a cycle and a run, and different distance options are available for children aged between five and seven years, eight and ten years, and eleven-plus.

Entry to the triathlon costs $5 in Levin and Foxton and $2 in Shannon, and there will be a free sausage and a fun swim for all participating children.

The event will be held at Shannon Primary School from 5pm on Friday 15 February, at Levin Aquatic Centre from 9am on Saturday 16 February, and at Foxton Heated Pools on Sunday 24 February.

To register online for the triathlon, visit aquatics.horowhenua.govt.nz/Events-Activities. Alternatively, download a registration form from the website, pick one up from the Levin Aquatic Centre, or register on the day.
