Police continue to appeal for information on John Mohi

Police are concerned for the safety of 77-year-old John Mohi, of Maketu.

Mr Mohi, who suffers from dementia, has not been seen since the afternoon of Monday 11 February.

Police, Land SAR Volunteers and members of the community have continued to scour the Maketu area.

Police are exploring the possibility that Mr Mohi may have received a lift outside of the current search area and are appealing to motorists who were travelling in the Wilson Road area, central Maketu, on Monday.

Mr Mohi is approximately 6ft (182cm) in height, of a very slight build, with grey hair.

He is prone to walking in a shuffling, stooped motion and was last seen wearing a dark business-style, button-down shirt with a blue and white check pattern on it.

He was also wearing a pair of black or grey long pants and jandals.

“We are now on the sixth day and the whole community has banded together in the search for Mr Mohi,” says Inspector Phil Gillbanks.

“We have whanau and friends, as well as more than 90 Community volunteers from the surrounding area searching in hot unpleasant conditions, but their efforts are unwavering.”

“Mr Mohi’s whanau are deeply concerned for his wellbeing and urge anyone who may have seen Mr Mohi, knows of his whereabouts, or may have given him a ride to another location to please contact Police.”

If anyone sees Mr Mohi, or someone fitting his description, they are encouraged to contact Tauranga Police as soon as possible on (07) 577 4300.
