Police investigate possible shots fired by fleeing driver

Superintendent Lane Todd, Canterbury Metro Commander:

Christchurch Police are making enquiries after an incident in Anzac Drive where it appears shots were fired at a police car overnight.

Just before 1am this morning, officers signalled a car to stop in Wainoni, due to the manner of driving.

The car failed to stop, and officers saw what they believed to be shots fired through a window of the car, towards the police car.

Police immediately abandoned the pursuit.

Fortunately nobody was injured but Police are taking the incident extremely seriously.

Enquiries to locate the offender/s have been ongoing today, and this has included a police presence in Anzac Drive.

We would also like to hear from anyone who has information which could assist our enquiries.

If you can help, please call Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 800 511.
