Aucklanders urged to back safe and appropriate speeds to save lives

Trafinz, New Zealand’s longest serving organisation dedicated to road safety, is urging Aucklanders to get behind Auckland Transport’s Speed Limits Bylaw consultation starting on 28 February.

As part of the safe infrastructure programme, Auckland Transport is proposing to change speed limits across Auckland, by setting new safe and appropriate speed limits for 10% of roads under its control.

“Trafinz strongly supports the proposals of safe and appropriate speed limits to be set for Auckland’s roads because we know slower speeds are the most cost-effective way to save lives”. says Mr John Goettler, Trafinz spokesperson and Vice President.

“Auckland’s rising rate of deaths and serious injury is unacceptable. Speeds limits across urban and rural areas are not currently posted at safe and appropriate speeds for road users.

Trafinz urges Aucklanders to respond to the consultation by supporting these speed management proposals that focus on saving lives.

Reducing inappropriate and unsafe speeds will make Auckland’s roads safer and improve the livability of Auckland for everyone,” says Mr Goettler.

Auckland Transport’s consultation is open until 31 March 2019.
