MetService: Nothing but blue skies

Settled weather set to continue

There has barely been a cloud in the sky across New Zealand this weekend (other than some cloud for eastern parts of the North Island on Saturday). The settled weather is set to continue, with high pressure being the dominating influence into the week.

“Those who participated in Round the Bays in Auckland on Sunday morning would have had sunshine and temperatures in the late teens, heading towards 20C later in the morning,” said MetService Meteorologist Claire Flynn. “The high pressure also kept concert-goers heading to Eminem in Wellington on Saturday evening dry, and the sun is out for the Newtown Festival on Sunday.”

More fine weather is expected for most parts of the country this week, with the high pressure remaining over New Zealand. Those in the east of the South Island will see some hot temperatures for the start of Autumn, with Blenheim and Ashburton forecast to reach 30C in the coming days. The next weather system approaches towards the end of the week, bringing some rain to northern and western parts of the country.
