Rain brings welcome relief for Marlborough

8 March 2019

The rainfall across Marlborough has brought some welcome relief this morning. Over 30mm has fallen in Blenheim and Picton, and the Wairau and Awatere river catchments have received 10mm to 25mm. More rain is forecast today.

The restrictions limiting public access to the popular Wither Hills Farm Park’s upper tracks will be lifted today. Signage will be removed this afternoon.

There is a bit of surface flooding around Blenheim but no major issues. The roads will be slippery now that they are wet after the long dry spell - drivers are asked to take it easy and be aware of the slip risk.

The water restrictions in Renwick and Picton are unchanged for now but will be reviewed next week.

Marlborough’s rainfall and river flow data is available on Flood Watch, one of the Council’s dynamic Smart Maps – see http://hydro.marlborough.govt.nz/floodwatch/

Note for editors: A weather and hydrological update will be presented to the Environment Committee on Thursday next week, which starts at 9.00 am.

ENDS.
