Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) has received two further Expressions of Interest (EOI) to develop Special Housing Areas in the Ladies Mile area. QLDC is seeking community feedback on these proposals.

These proposed developments are located adjacent to each other on the northern side of Ladies Mile and accessed via a proposed future roundabout at the intersection of Howard’s Drive and State Highway 6:

• Flint’s Park Residential and Flint’s Park Mixed Use Precinct Special Housing Area: This two-part expression of interest is a predominantly residential development (247 units) that includes development of a ‘local centre’ for the wider Ladies Mile, Lake Hayes Estate and Shotover Country areas. A reserve area is proposed adjacent to the historic Glenpanel Homestead building, and a possible school site has been identified.
• Glenpanel Special Housing Area: This is a predominantly residential development of approximately 176 residential units and includes a small portion of the ‘local centre’. A central reserve area is proposed.

While the Housing Accords and Special Housing Areas Act 2013 doesn’t provide for formal consultation on the establishment of special housing areas, QLDC’s elected members wish to understand how the local community feels about these proposals.

QLDC Chief Executive Mike Theelen noted Council is still considering a separate SHA proposal, Laurel Hills, which will also be considered at the 18 April Council meeting.

“Council paused a decision on Laurel Hills at their last meeting in order to gain community feedback on all of these Ladies Mile SHA proposals first. Elected members will then have a holistic view of the three proposals, and the transport implications, and will consider them together in April,” said Mr Theelen.

Feedback will close at 5.00pm on 11 April 2019 and these proposals will be considered by the Council at its next meeting on 18 April 2019 in Wānaka.
