Coromandel 200 commemorations to tie in with Illume Festival

The commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the visit of the Royal Navy ship "Coromandel," for which the town and our peninsula is named, will tie in with Coromandel Town's Illume Festival May 30 2020.

There will be a fireworks display, art exhibitions, food stalls, live acts and fun activities for the kids, while the dedication for the HMS Coromandel will be at the Whangarahi Reserve adjacent to Fureys Creek Bridge.

"We are also looking forward to a new event, an 1820s themed ball," says Coromandel 200 spokesperson Peter Pritchard.

This will be an exciting new event that gives everyone the chance to dress up and dance. There will be more details on this event to come.

"With all of this to plan, we are seeking support from volunteers," says Mr Pritchard.

"We have roles for a variety of volunteers and all help is appreciated. There will be general preparation and setting up duties on the day, along with pre-planning and innovative ideas that will add flavour to the whole community event," he says.

This will also be a great opportunity for stall holders to set up and sell thier goods.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer contact Margaret Harrison.
