Local Arts Projects to Receive Funding

26/03/2019

Creative Communities funding has been granted to eight local arts projects by our Creative Community NZ Committee.

The Creative Communities Scheme is a partnership between Creative New Zealand (the national arts development agency) and local councils.

The scheme supports and encourages local communities to create and present diverse arts opportunities within their area.

Each council takes responsibility for delivering the scheme in its area, as local decision-making is key to its success.

Councillor Julia McLean, a member of the Creative Community NZ Committee, has said there could be an increase coming in the amount the committee has to allocate. “Creative New Zealand is looking to increase the total pool of funding for this scheme and made specific mention that rural territories would see that increase soon” she said.

“It was great to see a variety of proposals on the table, showcasing the depth, passion and skill we have in our district. One that caught all the panel’s attention was a Stage and Film Makeup Workshop being held in the School Holidays. A fantastic opportunity and, who knows, it may be the start of someone’s career. As a panel we are always mindful of supporting initiatives across the district, and keen to support as many people working and benefiting from creative opportunities in the Hurunui”.
