Community drop-in session

A drop-in session will be held in Wanaka on Wednesday 3 April to inform the community about recommendations regarding Stage Two of the Wanaka Lakefront Development Plan.

The recommendations will be released Monday 1 April as part of a report to be tabled at the Wanaka Community Board Meeting on Thursday 4 April, with a particular focus on lakefront car parking and the Millennium Walkway concept.

Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) General Manager Community Services, Thunes Cloete said both features were significant to the Wanaka Lakefront Development Plan, and the drop-in session would allow the community to find out more about proposed options for both.

“We put initial construction dates on hold to enable for comprehensive evaluations of both lakefront car parking and the Millennium Walkway concept, to make sure recommendations put before the WCB are informed,” said Dr Cloete.

“We acknowledge the recommendations are unlikely to be universally accepted, but we think this is a great compromise in delivering to Wanaka community aspirations for active travel, strong connections and people-friendly spaces, while acknowledging the desire for car parking and keeping costs from growing.”

Members of the Wanaka Community Board (WCB) and QLDC will be present at the drop-in session.

Drop in session details:

Wanaka Recreation Centre Meeting Room: Wednesday 3 April from 12.30pm – 1.30pm.
