Porirua welcomes visitors for the ANZ Premiership final

24 May 2019

Porirua’s Whitney Souness has been on fire for the Pulse this season.

The ANZ Premiership netball final in Porirua has been confirmed and the city welcomes visitors with open arms.

Earlier this month the Pulse secured top spot in the competition and a home final. They will host either the Southern Steel or the Northern Stars at Te Rauparaha Arena on Monday, June 3 (Queen’s Birthday).

The opening pass-off will be at 4pm and Pulse players, including Porirua’s own Whitney Souness, have been vocal in their desire for a sellout crowd.

Porirua Mayor Mike Tana, who played a part in getting the final to the city, hopes the mid-afternoon start on a holiday will bring locals and visitors alike in to enjoy what the city has to offer.

“Why not make a day of it! We’re encouraging people to take the train to Porirua Station and then enjoy the short walk to Te Rauparaha Arena,” he said.

“We’ve done lots of work in our city centre, Te Manawa, to make it easy for people to get around.

“Check out the upgrades to Cobham Court on your way to Te Rauparaha Arena – you’ll pass lots of tasty eateries along the way. Then go to our Harbour’s Edge Pop-Up or view one of the fantastic exhibitions at Pātaka before heading to the arena.

“There’s a lot going on - come and check it out.”

Porirua City Manager Events, Helen Brookes, said securing the final was huge for the Arena, and the city.

“Porirua loves its netball - we’ve been part of the Pulse family since 2009, they had their first win here and we’re rapt to be able to bring the final to Porirua.

“There will be a great atmosphere and hopefully the crowd will witness a historic victory. Come on the Pulse!”
