Recorded crime drops in Wellington Police District

Recorded crime drops in Wellington Police District

Annual crime statistics released today show recorded crime in the Wellington District dropped 3.6 percent in the 2010/11 fiscal year.

Acting Wellington District Commander Inspector Richard Chambers says the District is continuing to see a reduction in recorded crime.

The categories across the District where recorded offences fell the most in the 2010/11 fiscal year include Public Order Offences (-9.9 percent) and Fraud, Deception and Related Offences (-7.9 percent) and Acts Intended to Cause Injury Offences (-5.1 percent).

Inspector Chambers says, "Wellington Area has had the most significant drop in recorded crime for the 2010/11 fiscal year, with a reduction of 6.1 percent, followed by Kapiti Mana Area, where recorded crime has dropped by 4.8 percent."

"These statistics also show a marked increase in Illicit Drug Offences in the Wairarapa. This is due to a targeted approach to stamp out organised crime and drug offending across the Wairarapa, which has significantly disrupted the local criminal fraternity over the past twelve months."

Burglaries across the District are almost the same down by 0.2 percent.

At a national level, recorded crime continues to drop with recorded offences dropping by 5.8 percent to its lowest level in six years.

The overall national resolution rate dropped by less than 1 percent.

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
