Lower Hutt: Next stage of The Square takes shape

Next stage of The Square takes shape

Work has resumed on The Square off Laings Road in Lower Hutt.

Mayor Ray Wallace says The Square is a major part of the city’s long term Making Places vision to add vibrancy to Lower Hutt’s central city.

“We are keen to get the work moving and now the weather has improved the site is dry enough to get under way again.”

The Square will provide a space for outdoor events, sculpture, exhibitions and leisure activities, located in the area between The Dowse, i-SITE, the court house and Telecom exchange building.

Contractors will begin removing existing footpath pavers and clearing away concrete kerb and channel. An adjacent new car parking area and access way was completed earlier this year.

Mayor Wallace says The Square will provide a focal point for community activity and is looking forward to seeing the project complete.

Completion of The Square is set for mid 2012.
