Paw Justice aids Chch animals with 64 tons of pet food

Paw Justice comes to the aid of Christchurch animals with 64 tons of pet food

The animal welfare charity Paw Justice has been helping lost and displaced pets in Christchurch for the past 12 months.

Since the first earthquake in September 2010, Paw Justice has fed thousands of cats and dogs lost and traumatized by the series of shakes in Christchurch. To date the organization has sent a staggering 64 tons of pet food to the city.

This phenomenal effort has been organized through a small dedicated team of volunteers headed up by Paw Justice coordinator on the ground in Christchurch, Mel Douglas. Mel and her team reach out to affected suburbs right across the city, helping large numbers of people and animals.

Through their efforts, they have supplied food to a number of organizations including the Salvation Army, Aranui Community Centre, Dallington Hub, SPCA, Dogwatch, K9 Rescue, and Christchurch Cat Rescue, to name a few

They have come to the aid of hundreds of foster carers taking in homeless animals, elderly residents living on their own with pets and families struggling to buy food due to the effects of the earthquakes and difficult financial times.

Earlier this year, July Paw Justice teamed up with partner Noel Leeming to hold a pet food collection drive. The public were asked to drop in cans of pet food at Noel Leeming stores across the country. Stores were overwhelmed by the generosity of Kiwi’s and the food collected has helped feed a huge number of cats & dogs in the Christchurch region.
