Waitakere: Soapbox Derby to Support Community

Soapbox Derby to Support Community

Once again the Rotary Club of Waitakere will be staging its 9th annual Soapbox Derby on Sunday 18th March 2012 in Massey.

The derby is an ideal opportunity to bring businesses and schools together, with an element of fun and education, to the benefit of the local community.

The All American Soapbox Derby originated in Akron, Ohio in 1934, came to New Zealand in 2003 and to West Auckland in 2004.

The finalists from this event will race again in the New Zealand Finals in April—and the winner of these Finals goes on to compete in the World Championship in Akron Ohio in July.

Entrants come from local schools and Scout groups and are aged between 10 and 16 and have huge support from their schools, family and friends.

Being a community event makes it an ideal opportunity for local businesses to support it through sponsorship. There are still sponsorship opportunities for the 2012 derby and business are encouraged to act quickly so as not to miss this opportunity.

Sponsors work in partnership with their nominated schools and a number of our sponsors have developed a mutually beneficial on-going partnership with their school.

All proceeds from sponsorship and other activities taking place on the day will go toward local community projects.

To find out more about both Waitakere Rotary and the Soapbox Derby visit www.rotarywaitakere.org.nz and www.soapboxderby.co.nz.
