“Resourcing Excellence” Police Association Conference

“Resourcing Excellence” Police Association Conference 16-18 November

The Police Association holds its 76th annual conference this week, from Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 November, at the James Cook Grand Chancellor Hotel, The Terrace, Wellington.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Resourcing Excellence”. The theme will focus attention on the direct linkage between the resources invested in policing, the service police are able to deliver, and the results police are able to achieve. As resources tighten in financially tight times, the public safety gains of recent years may be placed at risk.

Police bravery will also be recognised through presentation, by Sir Brian Lochore, of New Zealand Police Association Bravery Awards, on Wednesday afternoon. This is just the second year in which these unique awards have been presented.

Guest speakers also include the Minister of Police, Hon Judith Collins, who will open the conference on Wednesday morning, and Leader of the Opposition, Hon Phil Goff, who speaks on Thursday morning.

On Friday morning a panel of police and community representatives will explore, as a case study, the excellent results that have been able to be achieved in Otara since the injection of additional police staff backed by innovative leadership.

Media representatives are invited to attend the following sessions.

1000-1100 Wednesday, 16 November
Conference opening – Hon Judith Collins, Minister of Police
The Minister of Police will deliver an opening address of approximately 20-30 minutes, following welcome and introductory comments from Police Association President Greg O’Connor.
