Selwyn health & social services directory out

A new Selwyn Health and Social Services Directory has been produced by the Selwyn District Council to give residents information about the range of services available in our district and where to find them.

The Directory lists useful websites, Council Libraries/Service Centre information, health and medical services and social services.

Selwyn Mayor Kelvin Coe says compiling this first edition took some months because of the number of different groups, organisations, services, programmes and facilities in the district.

“We’ve tried to uncover as many services as we could – I think there’s around nearly 300 listings. It’s particularly helpful for newcomers and others who’s lives are in a changing phase – they might be first time mothers and wondering where their child will go to preschool and school, or people wanting to find a support group or counsellor,” he says.

“We put it together because staff are continually fielding questions about where to find these services and now we have it all together in a booklet. And it gives us a chance to identify any gaps in local services that we need to think about.”

The Council intends to keep the information updated on its website, www.selwyn.govt.nz, and anyone who has been missed can contact the Community Services team on 347 2800 or email comdevadmin@selwyn.govt.nz to be listed online and included in the next printed edition.

“It would be great if people could check their listings regularly and let us know when there are changes in information, particularly their contact details. We’ll probably look at a reprint in another 18 months or so,” Mayor Coe says.

People can pick up copies of the directory at Council offices and service centre/libraries in Darfield, Rolleston, Lincoln and Leeston.
