Kapiti Police pleased with controlled purchase operation

Kapiti Police pleased with results of recent controlled purchase operation

Kapiti Police are pleased with the results of a recent controlled purchase operation where all premises visited, refused to sell alcohol to the underage volunteers.

Sergeant Jacquie Muir of the Kapiti Police says the joint operation involving the Kapiti Coast District Council liquor licensing inspector, Regional Public Health and Police visited 17 off-license premises and one on-license premises between Waikanae and Paekakariki yesterday.

"I'm delighted to say that on all occasions, licensees refused to sell alcohol to our two 15 year old female volunteers."

Sergeant Muir says with the holiday season fast approaching, it's important all agencies, including licensees, work together to reduce the harm alcohol causes amongst our community.

"It was great to see that all on and off-licensed premises are being responsible when it comes to meeting their obligations under the Sale of Liquor Act."

Sergeant Muir says, "It's really important that these high standards continue throughout the festive season, at a time when young people are at greater risk of placing themselves in potentially dangerous situations, due to their inability to look after themselves when under the influence of alcohol."
