Date: 9 January 2012

Emergency management in the Bay of Plenty is about to get stronger, and to make sure it happens the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group would like your feedback on their draft five year plan .

Chair of the Bay of Plenty Joint Committee for Civil Defence Emergency Management, John Forbes said the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Draft Group Plan 2012-2017 would provide local people with a more effective and efficient civil defence emergency management capability.

“The aim of the draft plan is to strengthen the four key areas of emergency management: reduction, readiness, response and recovery,” Mr Forbes said.

“The draft includes actions like the development of a mass evacuation plan, a risk reduction programme, and a new public education strategy.

“We’ve also planned improvements to the way the agencies responsible for emergency management work together, which should result in greater efficiency and a safer community.”

The Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group comprises members of local government authorities, hospital and health representatives, and emergency services.

“We believe this plan will guide us to a safer future for civil defence emergencies, and we’d like to know what others think about it,” he said.
