Kaipatiki Local Board secures new home for community co-ordinators

The Kaipatiki Local Board has found a permanent home for its key community development partner, the Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust.

In announcing the news, Board Chair Lindsay Waugh says the building, in Glenfield’s Chartwell Avenue, is the perfect choice for the Trust as it is based right at the heart of the Kaipatiki community.

“After seven years camped out in the Northcote War Memorial Hall following the demolition of the old Birkenhead Library, our Kaipatiki Community Co-ordinators and community development colleagues will be moving to a permanent base within the next two months.

“Thanks to the perseverance of many people, most notably my fellow Kaipatiki Local Board Member Kay McIntyre, Auckland Council Property Limited and council’s Local Board services and property staff, the property has been purchased and a licence to occupy will be offered to the Trust,” Mrs Waugh says.

The building has the added benefit of adjoining the growing recreational precinct at Marlborough and McFetridge parks.

Lindsay Waugh also thanked the people of Northcote Point for their understanding during the period the Trust used this community’s hall.

“I’m pleased the hall will soon be available once again to meet the needs of the broader community,” she says.

The Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust was established in 1982 as the Birkenhead-Northcote-Glenfield Community Trust and has served the western North Shore with distinction for 30 years. Among the Trust’s instigators was former Birkenhead and North Shore Mayor and MP Ann Hartley who was on hand to see the new lease signed.
