OPERATION MANU – Police release vehicle description

Rodney Police have released a description of a vehicle that is being sought by investigators as the hunt for the killer[s] of 32 year old Lee Ross McMurdo continues.

Detective Inspector Greg Cramer is the Field Crime Manager, for Waitematä Police District. He is leading this homicide investigation which began in July 2011.

“The last confirmed sighting of Lee Ross McMurdo was at 1.45pm on Tuesday 26 July 2011 at his home address. Police are eager to hear about the movements of a vehicle that was close to the address at 1675 on SH16 in the early hours of Wednesday 27 July 2011,” he said.

“The vehicle being sought is described as:

• Mitsubishi L300 Van: - likely to be a “Sportpac” model
• Coloured two tone pale blue or aqua - over a silver or grey base
• The image is not the actual van but is considered to be reasonably close
• Occupants – two males with dark complexions. One male had long hair

“One of the missing property items previously sought by police has been found. The LG 50 Plasma television model 50PS30, believed to have been taken from the scene at the time of the murder, was recently located at an Auckland address.

“Police are keen to locate the Cerwin-Vega E715 floor standing three way speaker, which is one of the items still missing. It has a dark wood grained finish and is about 90cm tall. All the other described property remains outstanding.”

“The deceased Lee Ross McMurdo was well known in his local rural community. He was a family man who enjoyed numerous friendships, and he was popular with those with whom he had regular contact.”

“The team has dedicated many hundreds of hours to this investigation and I am confident that with the continued support of the public, we will be successful in finding Lee’s killer[s].”

“If anyone has information that may lead Police to the killer[s] of 32 year old Lee Ross McMurdo, then we want to hear from them immediately.”
