HBRC Councillors Get Firsthand Look At Mahia Beach Community Wastewater Scheme

Hawke’s Bay Regional Councillors will get a firsthand look at the Mahia Beach community wastewater scheme next week.

The councillors are spending two days (Tuesday 27 & Wednesday 28 March) in the Wairoa area.

Firstly they will meet with their counterparts at the Wairoa District Council. They’ll discuss HBRC’s newly adopted Draft Long Term Plan 2012-2022, its new investment company and its facilities fund.

Councillors will then tour the Mahia Beach community wastewater scheme. The scheme, which is a joint venture between Wairoa District Council and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and central government, will result in wastewater being treated in a central treatment plant, before being irrigated onto forestry land. Central government is contributing $5.5 million to the scheme.

The visit is also an opportunity for councillors from both the Wairoa District and Hawke’s Bay Regional Councils to meet with the local Maori and community members to discuss the scheme.
