Celebrate Auckland’s Anniversary Weekend at Voyager NZ Maritime Museum.

Voyager NZ Maritime Museum has pulled out all stops to celebrate Auckland’s Anniversary Weekend. From Saturday 26 January – Monday 28 January Voyager is offering a myriad of activities both on and off the water specifically aimed at giving families of all ages a ‘whale of a time’. The objective of the programme is to explore and celebrate Auckland’s colourful past, present and future.

Join the museum’s volunteer crews for sailings on the brigantine ‘Breeze’ or the scow ‘Ted Ashby’. Record your favourite memories on the ‘Proud to be an Aucklander Wall’. These huge walls will be on both sides of the giant cradle of KZ1. Take your time and stroll along the museum’s ‘City of Sails’ trail which will point out key maritime facts. Kids will be able to make their own boat, and race them – their own mini regatta as well as learning the secrets of how to magically get a ship in a bottle. There will be a roaming cameraman who is to capture every nostalgic utterance or sentiment from the public.

At midday Monday the museum’s tiny steam tug SS Puke – the smallest and oldest tug boat operating commercially in NZ – will lead the Anniversary Tug Parade. And this ‘seriously cute’ vessel will be doing trips for the public from 1.00pm – 3.00pm.
