Key Auckland airport link closed over Easter advises NZTA

MEDIA RELEASE

NZ Transport Agency –Auckland Regional Office

Key Auckland airport link closed over Easter advises NZTA

The NZ Transport Agency is closing a key on-ramp to Auckland’s Southwestern Motorway (State Highway 20) over Easter which may impact on travel times for people going to Auckland International Airport.

The closure of the southbound on-ramp at Neilson Street/Gloucester Park Road in Onehunga starts at 10pm Thursday, 28 March, until 6am Tuesday, 2 April.

The closure will allow the utilities company, Vector, to complete maintenance work on a gas main under the on-ramp.

“We regret any inconvenience to drivers, but the work does require a full closure of the on-ramp. We are taking advantage of the long weekend when traffic volumes are lighter so that there is as little disruption as possible,” says the NZTA’s Traffic Operation Manager for Auckland, Kathryn Musgrave.

“People should allow more time for their travel to reach their destinations on time and safely, especially if they are heading out to the airport.”

As part of the closure, there will be changes to the current road and intersection layouts around the on-ramp and drivers are asked to use alternative routes, or follow sign-posted detours.

The off-ramp at Neilson Street is not affected by the closure and will remain open, as will access to all businesses in the area.
