End of total fire ban in the Wellington region

End of total fire ban in the Wellington region

The ban on all outdoor fires in the Wellington region has been lifted as at 9am today (Friday 5 April).

The ban was imposed on 8 March due to an extreme fire hazard in the region. However recent rainfall and lowering temperatures has lessened the risk in the past week.

The ban covered all territory in Wellington City, Hutt City, Upper Hutt City, Porirua City and the Kapiti Coast District. It included all land administered by the Department of Conservation.

Fires can be lit in the open (where permitted) – but require a fire permit. For details on how to apply for a permit or local fire restrictions, please contact your local council.
