Unanimous support for Manukau’s white water
People from varied backgrounds and experience voiced their support for an adventurous new sports, educational and cultural facility at Auckland Council’s Draft Annual Plan hearing.
On Monday April 8 every person speaking to their submission gave their resounding support for Wero, the proposed white water facility at Vodafone Events Centre (formally TelstraClear Events Centre).
Sir Noel Robinson, chair of Counties Manukau Pacific Trust says the proposed development has been thoroughly reviewed and the trust is committed to the financial sustainability of Wero.
“It was overwhelming to have 100 per cent of speakers at the hearing give their full support for Wero,” says Sir Noel.
“Speakers came from businesses, marae, youth groups, churches, sports groups and individual supporters and they all think Wero offers long-term benefits to our community and economy.”
People who spoke to their submissions were from Manukau, greater Auckland, Rotorua and Nelson.
“Now we have a long wait before the council delivers its decision in May but we’re hoping the unanimous support at the hearing will ensure democratic process prevails,” says Sir Noel.
