Fatal crash Southern motorway northbound

Shortly after 4pm today police were told of a multi vehicle accident between Te Iriangi Drive and Otara onramp Northbound.

One person has died as a result of injuries sustained. Emergency services are still on route to remove others fronm their vehicles.

The northbound motorway system is closed from SH20 (Manukau offramp) to Otara off ramp. Vehicles can reenter north from Otara.

There will be considerable congestion in and around these areas for the forseeable future. Motorists are requested to avoid these areas or face long delays. Northbound traffic is best to use SH20 but this is likely to also become congested. We are already getting congestion complaints involving the southbound lanes of the motorway

Serious crash investigators are making their way to the scene.
