Electric Bikes a Hit with Students

Electric Bikes a Hit with Students

Victoria University students took a break from study today to check out electric bikes on campus - the new transport innovation that “makes hills flat”.

The bikes, which can be charged up overnight, provide a valuable boost for riders braving Wellington’s windswept hills.

The bikes were one of a number of solutions on display today as part of Generation Zero’s 100% Possible campaign. Other features included posters about electric vehicles and a quiz on transport options.

Generation Zero’s 100% Possible campaign seeks to show New Zealanders the practical solutions available right now to move the country off coal, oil and gas, and towards 100% renewable energy.

Spokesperson, Louis Chambers: “As young people, we have a focus on future-friendly action, especially with regards to transport. Electric bikes are one of many options which help give us the sensible transport choices that our generation wants.”

“It’s our generation, along with our children and their children, who will benefit if we start using low-carbon transport to combat climate change. Being aware of our options is the first step to achieving this.”

People interested in the electrification of New Zealand's transport system can head along to the Mermorial Theatre, Victoria University, at 5.30pm on Monday 6th May to hear from Jace Hobbs, who'll be speaking on New Zealand's potential to electrify its transport system and move beyond fossil fuels.
