At 3.15pm on the 30/06/13 police came across a fatal accident 200 metres north of the intersection of woodshed valley road and waimate highway (s.h.1).
The accident occurred between a Nissan 4wd and a scana heavy motor vehicle.
The Nissan was traveling northward while the truck and trailer was heading south.
Police are unsure what caused the accident and enquiries are continuing.
Serious crash are at the scene at the moment.
As a result of the collision the truck has vered of the road and stopped in the ditch. Police suspect the the rear tyres have burst into flames due to the road friction. The resulting fire has caused moderate/minor damage to the rear of the vehicle.
The truck has collided into the power pole stay which had caused the power line to to snap the causing electricity to arc around the pole. Power was turned off for the period to allow lineman to fix it.
The 4wd had 2 passengers. The deceased driver of the 4wd has not yet been formally identified.
