Police
attended the scene of a car crash on SH73, Mt White at about
5.58am today.
"Fire, Ambulance, two Rescue Helicopters
and Kiwi Rail staff responded to the scene after a report
that a van with six occupants had left the road and rolled
down a steep slope onto railway lines," said Constable Tony
Beaumont of Darfield Police.
"As a result of the crash
several people were ejected from the vehicle, and one, a
female in her late teens, suffered fatal injuries." The
name of the deceased person will not be released at this
stage as next of kin are still to be notified.
Five other
people were admitted to Christchurch Hospital, with two
being admitted to ICU.

also attended, and investigations into the cause of the
accident are continuing.
