AUCKLAND, Sept 26, 2013—FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYS: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, has launched its sixth annual FedEx Cares Week in the Asia Pacific region. On 7 September 8 volunteers from Auckland spent the day sorting donated clothes and shoes. The Mission offers health and social services to individuals and families who may be experiencing a temporary setback or a long-term problem that needs expert attention. Last year the centre received over 39,000 visits for food, clothing and support.

From September 7-15 over 1,000 FedEx Asia Pacific volunteers will have committed more than 4,000 hours in 36 community activities and made a difference in people’s lives. With a global theme of “Uncommon Heroes, Common Good.”, this year’s projects include cleaning up parks and coastlines, preparing and distributing meals for the needy, providing care for disadvantaged children, and promoting environmentally responsible behavior.

FedEx is committed to building strong local communities and FedEx Cares Week is just one of the many ways that FedEx supports the communities where employees, contractors, customers and team members live and work.

“FedEx believes in giving back to our local communities through action. Employee participation in volunteering remains an integral part of the FedEx corporate culture, fostering employee engagement and allowing staff to dedicate their time and talents to help the less fortunate.” said Kim Garner., managing director, FedEx Express Australasia.

“I am proud of our employees who enthusiastically give of their time to contribute to the wider community in a responsible and resourceful manner through volunteerism, and by doing their bit to enhancing the environment”

“We were at the Auckland City Mission Distribution Centre, where we helped sort bags of donated clothing for those less fortunate. It’s always good to give back to the community and take some time out from your normal day-to-day life, to be part of an activity to help those in need. Everyone brought their “A-Game” on the day. They got into work and helped each other out as much as they could; with a bit of laughter along the way. I think everyone had a fantastic time.” said FedEx Employee Malia Akeli.

Since FedEx Cares Week first launched in the U.S. in 2005, it has expanded to more than 40 countries and territories around the globe. Together, FedEx volunteers around the world will donate thousands of hours of their time to serving local organisations.
