Take care when driving through road construction

06 December 2013 | NZ Transport Agency - Waikato & Bay of Plenty

Take care when driving through road construction sites

Due to the heavy rain over the last couple of days, the NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to take care when driving through road construction sites. The rain has left some sites with potholes, which can make for a bumpy ride for drivers.

With over 60mm of rain in the last 24 hours some minor damage has occurred to construction sites along State Highway 2 at Athenree Gorge and on State Highway 33 near Paengaroa at the Sun Valley Curves project site.

Heavy traffic travelling on unsealed construction sites after heavy rainfall can cause further damage says the Transport Agency, and travelling over these unsealed roads cannot be avoided. Therefore drivers need to adhere to the posted speed restrictions so they can ensure they safely complete their journey, and the work crews can safely finish their jobs.

Workers are currently working hard to repair the road surface damage as quickly as possible, but caution drivers to be alert and pay attention when driving through these areas.

The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience and ongoing co-operation.
