Top Chefs Join Giapo to Create Ice Cream Menu For Starship

Top Chefs Join Forces with Giapo to Create Unique Ice Cream Menu for Starship This Christmas

This Christmas, 10-15 of New Zealand’s best known chefs are coming together to create a unique menu of ice creams, inspired by their own experiences and all-time favourite flavours. The special edition ice creams will be for sale at the Giapo ice cream store in Auckland on Saturday 21 December, for one day only. Proceeds will help Starship purchase a high performance fetal heart monitor. This sophisticated new monitor has built-in computerised data to support the clinician’s assessment and will help accurately monitor the wellbeing of mother and baby.

So far, a number of chefs have confirmed their involvement, including Des Harris from Clooney, Sid Sarawhat from Sidart restaurant, Kyle Street from Depot, Michael Meredith from Meredith’s, Mark Southon from The Foodstore and Robert Oliver, editor of the Mea'ai Samoa cookbook. More will be announced over the coming days.

“For many New Zealand families, the only wish they have for Christmas is for their child to be well again. Many children will be spending Christmas morning in hospital, too poorly to go home. That is why we have chosen Starship Children’s Hospital as our charity of choice this Christmas,” explains Gianpaolo Grazioli, owner and head chef of the Giapo ice cream store.

“Inviting some of New Zealand’s most talented, high profile chefs to participate in a Christmas Ice Cream Gala is a different and exciting way of raising money and increasing awareness about Starship and the wonderful work they do for sick children and families in this country,” he adds. “Of course, it is also an opportunity for Kiwis to taste some truly one of a kind gourmet ice creams, created by their favourite chefs. It’s going to be a fantastic afternoon.”
Giapo will be offering a pre sale on Friday 20 December, before the official Ice Cream Gala launch the following day. Five small (espresso size) cups will be available for $10 allowing customers to have a taste of a selection of the chef-designed flavours.
