Canterbury Police were out in force for New Years Eve concentrating on alcohol and disorder issues. Extra staff were deployed across Christchurch city, Akaroa and Hanmer Springs.
18 Infringement notices were issued under the new Sale of Liquor Act. Offences included: Breaches of Liquor Bans and unaccompanied Minors.
A number of checkpoints were conducted throughout the city and 4 persons were processed for driving with excess breath alcohol.
29 arrests were made for a variety of alcohol fuelled offences throughout the evening.
In general Police were pleased with the behaviour with most celebrations being family orientated.
