Update 2: Dunedin Homicide

Dunedin Police are today conducting a scene examination and an area canvass as they work to establish the facts in relation to the death of three people at a house in St Leonard's last evening.

Around 15 staff are working on the investigation today and ESR are also at the scene undertaking a forensic examination.

Police launched a homicide investigation last evening after a man and two children were found dead in the house after suffering what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The children lived at the address with their 49-year-old mother. The mother was at the address at the time the incident occurred but information indicates that she was able to leave the address and get to a neighbour's house.

Police confirm that the 51-year-old man was an employee working in administration for the Department of Corrections. His name is likely to be released later today.

Police also confirm that he had previously breached two protection orders by way of contact by phone in August and September last year and as a result was arrested by police and put before the court.

Police extend their sympathies to the families in what is an absolutely terrible tragedy.

The deceased children are Bradley Livingstone (9) and Ellen Livingstone (6).
