Record numbers for AMI Round the Bays 2014 as event heads for third consecutive sellout!

Registrations for Wellington's iconic AMI Round the Bays are well under way and are selling faster than ever. According to event organisers Sport Wellington, registrations have soared in the New Year as registrants rushed to snatch up the last of Early Bird prices which closed on January 10th

Capped at 14,000 participants, registrations have surpassed the 7,000 half way mark and are sitting approximately 2,000 ahead of 2013. Organisers believe the event will see an early sell out, well before the crowd gathers at the start line on February 23rd.

Sport Wellington, a Regional Sports Trust which promotes and supports sport and recreation in the Wellington region, are overjoyed to see such a positive response to the event. “It’s great to see more and more people keen to participate and get active” says Event Director James King. The new addition of the Snapper 10km has been especially well received. “The great reception of the new distance option really demonstrates a strong growth for the event, many participants are welcoming the extra challenge” says King.

Local Wellington talent Brockaflowersaurus-Rex & The Blueberry Biscuits have been announced as the premier entertainment at the Kilbirnie Park festival. Brockaflower, the 9-piece hip hop, soul and funk fusion group have been building up an enthusiastic fan base around the country since their formation early in 2011. Drax Project, one of Wellington’s freshest bands, will also be taking the stage during the festival. With humble beginnings street busking, playing covers of hip-hop and pop music on sax, bass, and drums, the group has quickly gained traction. The AMI Round the Bays team ensures they have done their research and guarantee both bands will bring an energetic vibe to the festival and are sure to get you back up on your feet.

Participants are once again encouraged to join the ‘Run for Research’ and raise money for New Zealand’s leading independent medical research facility, the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research. With nearly $8,000 raised already, there is still a way to go to reach the $50,000 fundraising goal. All funds raised will help the important Wellington based charity in their efforts finding better treatments and cures for diseases such as cancer, asthma and allergies.
