Welsh Ex Pats Dig Deep To Help Compatriot Ben Cornick.

Ben survived 12,000 foot drop when his parachute failed to open. He is now in Auckland hospital and facing a medical bill of $100,000. The Auckland Welsh Club want to help. See below.

"The Welsh are well known for their generosity, we thought we could use our St David's day celebration as means of helping Ben. All will be given a warm welcome to join us in celebration of the national day of wales". Said Barrie-John..

Come to the Auckland Welsh Club's annual St. David's Day celebration on the 1st Of March. This year we are holding the dinner at the historic Westwind Cinema..   Westwind Cinema are famous throughout Auckland for their Coal Range Roast Dinners.

The magnificent vocal stylings of Rebecca Nelson will lead the entertainment. Rebecca has sung extensively with the Royal New Zealand Navy Band and has performed the National Anthems of France and Ireland at All Blacks matches. Rebecca has a long held ambition of singing the Welsh National Anthem at the beginning of an All Blacks   game. Supporting Rebecca will be Tommy Godfrey NZ's Shirley Bassey , plus lots of spontaneous welsh song and poetry. We call it a "Noson lawen" a night of fun and laughter.

This year we will also be raising funds for Ben Cornick who suffered horrific injuries after falling 12,000 feet and crashing into a van when he lost control of a steering toggle on a specialist parachute on a skydive. Ben had to be airlifted from Fiji to Auckland Hospital where he is currently in hospital until he recovers sufficiently to travel back home. Ben will be facing medical bills of greater than 50,000 pounds before he leaves New Zealand. Let us show Ben how generous us Welsh living in New Zealand can be.
