Advisory panel selection process begins

Auckland Council has received over 140 applications for positions on three advisory panels.

Shortlisted candidates for the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel (from 62 applicants), the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel (32) and Seniors Advisory Panel (48) will be interviewed by selection panels each comprising a councillor, senior council staff member and community representatives.

Recommendations on the final make-up of the advisory panels will be made to the Mayor on 14 April and successful panellists endorsed by the Governing Body on 17 April.

First meetings of the new panels will take place in May. The term of office expires a month before the next council elections in 2016.

The panels are designed to provide the council with strategic “big picture” advice on issues important to diverse groups, and advice on how council can engage effectively with communities.

The council is seeking applicants who have sound knowledge of community dynamics, and provide robust knowledge and critical judgement across emerging trends, challenges and opportunities, and have experience with governance and advisory roles.

Applicants also need a broad perspective on the future direction of Auckland as envisioned in the Auckland Plan, the council’s defining blueprint for managing growth and change in the city.
