St Gerard’s Maintenance and Restoration Trust
The “Error Prone Bureaucracy” study undertaken by Tailrisk Economics in relation to buildings yellow stickered as earthquake prone, raises new and troubling questions.
If the “34% of the New Building Code” requirement is wrongly calibrated, then we risk being forced to raise and spend $10 million on the seismic strengthening of St Gerard’s Church and Monastery, to little purpose or benefit.
We therefore support their call for the Government to go back to the drawing board and develop earthquake strengthening standards, that take into account both the costs and benefits of doing so.
