Catch the Art Night bus for Matariki

Seung Yul Oh’s MOAMOA

City Gallery is delighted to be a part of Matariki Wellington – a region-wide arts festival welcoming the Maori New Year with events and exhibitions throughout June and July.

We’re kicking off the Matariki festivities with our very first Tuatara Open Late on tomorrow. From 5pm – 10pm, enjoy a jammed pack programme including live music from Kiwi-kraftwerk duo Golden Axe. There’ll also be beer, wine, sodas and delicious dumplings available on the night for purchase.

On Thursday 3 July, jump on a free bus and enjoy Art Night. A very special event offering five times the fun across five galleries: City Gallery Wellington, Te Papa, The Dowse (Lower Hutt), Pataka (Porirua) and Expressions (Upper Hutt) At City Gallery, join us for live music and performance from
the talented Dudley Benson. Free buses will travel between each gallery so simply jump aboard one of free Art Night buses and enjoy the ride! Buses will depart every 30 minutes.

On Thursday 23 July for Maori Language Week (21 -27 July), we’re hosting a special evening, Toi Te Reo with korero, family activities and kai. All galleries open until 10pm.

During the festival, these great events are backed up by two stellar exhibitions specially linked with the spirit of Matariki, Seung Yul Oh’s MOAMOA, A Decade and Churchward Samoa.

Be sure you get out and make the most of the fabulous art and events Wellington has on offer.
